I sat down with directors Dyana Winkler and Tina Brown during Tribeca Film Festival to talk about their documentary United Skates.

For many decades, roller skating rinks across the United States have thrived as off-the-radar incubators of hip-hop culture and a passionate African American roller-skating community.

As the rinks are increasingly under threat, the community is fighting to preserve them. I wrote about their inspiring culture and resistance, which is depicted so beautifully in the film.
